Entry 5: End of the 2023 Season Gala Recap
Drag racing as a female is…interesting…there is a lot of doubt, incredulity, questions about how and why would you even WANT to do this? Isn’t it a man’s sport? Who helps you? Do you even know how to drive? And on and on. HOWEVER. There are the bright spots; the family, the track guys that would do anything to help you, answer any questions you have, your team being able to walk all the way to the start with you, help you stage, come get you at the top end, yell and scream and support from near and far, photographers take amazing photos of you and your car. One of the best things that happened to me last year was when I met Sophie and Tanner Fox at our home track in Noble, OK- and thus found the Women and Wheels series. Sophie has built an encouraging, learning forward environment so that those of us who maybe haven’t been in a car and raced ever or not very much would feel like we COULD take a car down the track for more than just funsies.
Women and Wheels exists to provide a safe space and a place for us to DRIVE + THRIVE in a male dominated sport- each of us is so lucky to have crossed paths with the Foxes. She has forged an EMPIRE and it’s only just getting started.
Sophie (@thestockfox) and @womenandwheelsusa put on a fabulous evening last night. It was the first ever Women & Wheels End of Season Gala held at the Oklahoma Historical Society & Museum. It was so cool to see everyone decked out in glam instead of fire suits and helmets! We had a wonderful dinner, a fun photo booth, and an amazing photo slideshow. Sophie spoke for over an hour (despite her self professed anxiety). Her extremely well-written monologue included thank yous to sponsors, friends and family and presenting the well-deserved (!)year end awards (each had their own unique story of course)- there was not a dry eye for some stories and lots of laughs for the rest. I left feeling (again) immensely grateful to be a part of such a wonderful and welcoming group of women.
Huge shoutout to my brother Cole- crew chief and all around support literally from day one- for standing in for my husband, Kevin and taking me to the gala- it was cold 🥶 but he was such a trooper!🩵
I would be remiss if I didn’t thank the glam team @marlohaus for my HMU services🫶🏼 it was such a wonderful experience and you made me feel so pampered- thank you!💅 Also BIG thank you to Granny (Kevin’s grandma) for letting me borrow her very warm fur coat- it saved my evening!🧥❄️
I am looking forward to more learning, growing and another fantastic season of racing in 2024.
